STUDENTS
Q & A

Am I eligible?

All NCHS graduates enrolled as full-time students in a two-year or four-year college, technical or vocational school, are eligible to apply. All scholarships are awarded based on financial need.

How do I apply?

In order to be considered, you must complete the NCSF scholarship application and provide financial information as compiled by the College Scholarship Service (CSS Profile). Make sure to put in the NCHS Scholarship school code, which is 7929.

You will not be able to complete the CSS Profile until you have filled out the FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid). Visit: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.

In addition, you must seek aid from your college before you can be considered for a NCSF scholarship. Submit a copy of your financial aid award letter from the college you plan to attend as soon as you receive it (even if no aid was awarded).

Each applicant’s financial status is assessed by the College Scholarship Service. The basis for the Foundation’s decision is the information reported on the financial aid form and analyzed by the Service. The Foundation is using the same data that colleges employ in making their awards.  All decisions are based solely on need alone.

Students are eligible to receive aid from the NCSF for a maximum of four undergraduate years and must reapply each year that he/she is seeking aid. The Foundation examines each case after colleges and any other groups have made their funding decisions; therefore, a scholarship from the NCSF does not preclude you from receiving aid from other sources.

Are there different forms for different scholarships?

No. Scholarships are funded from our general donations or through Named Scholarships, which are made in honor of an individual, group, organization or business. These Named Scholarships may be designated for a student with specific characteristics; however, all applicants are required to complete the same application form.

Are the scholarship recipients anonymous?

Named scholarship recipients will be asked to write thank you notes to donors of their named awards. Recipients may have an opportunity to meet the person(s) responsible for their scholarship at a small ceremony to be held at New Canaan High School. While recipient's names are not anonymous, they will not be publicized to anyone or any media outlet. NCSF highly respects all applicants' privacy.

Do I need to repay the scholarship?

As the policy was revised in 2016, no recipient is required to repay the Scholarship Foundation for any scholarship awarded.
