Miss Karl attended the Little Red Schoolhouse and graduated NCHS class of 1943. She was the devoted nurse for 35 years to many alumni of Saint Aloysius, East School and Saxe Middle School, a visiting nurse within the New Canaan community and ‘Aunt Mary' to her lucky nieces and nephews and all who knew her through them. Her dedication and compassion toward her patients, family, and the community at large transcended generations. She was an accomplished, independent, witty, and inspirational woman who embodied the concept of “generosity of spirit." The Karl family has created a scholarship in her name for a graduate of New Canaan High School who is considering the medical field, education, or for community contributions.
